What is a copay?

When you go to the doctor’s office, you’ll probably pay a copay. You cough up $30 or so, see the doctor about your cough, go about your way. Wait. Back up. What exactly is a copay?

Your copayment is the fixed amount set by your insurance plan you pay out-of-pocket for certain provider visits. It’s common to have a set copay for your PCP, specialists, different types of prescription drugs, and other healthcare services, like an ER visit.

Generally, tests and imaging aren’t covered by a copay, so they’ll incur additional costs. Keep in mind your copay –– the flat fee to providers –– will likely differ for in-network and out-of-network providers.

If you have questions about your copay, contact our concierge. Or, request a demo to get Zest Health for your employees.
